Getafe has loaned midfielder Yvan Neyou to Greek Super League side Volos. The Madrid-based club made the player's departure official this Wednesday, as reported by La Razón, with the transfer window already closed.
Neyou, aged 29, joins the Hellenic team aiming to secure playing time. His contract with Getafe remains valid until June 2028. The Cameroonian had barely featured in eight matches for the azulón first team since his signing last summer, scoring one goal and providing one assist.
Why has Neyou left Getafe?
Yvan Neyou was part of the group of players not in manager José Bordalás's immediate plans. Alongside other names like Javi Muñoz, Juan Berrocal, or Álex Sancris, the central midfielder sought an exit to gain prominence. His move to Volos marks his second loan in under a year, after he joined Saudi side Al-Okhdood during the winter transfer window of the previous campaign.
The Getafe squad, which you can view on our squad page, has fierce competition in the midfield. With this departure, Bordalás fine-tunes a group currently sitting in eleventh place in the LaLiga EA Sports standings. The team aims to consolidate itself in mid-table after an irregular start to the season.
What will Neyou bring to Volos?
Volos, who play in Greece's top flight, are acquiring a player with experience in several European leagues. Neyou is a physical box-to-box midfielder, capable of providing defensive balance and also arriving in the opposition area. His last goal in the blue shirt came in a 2-1 win against Alavés in matchday 12 of last season.
The player, who joined Getafe from Leganés, signed a three-year contract. His adaptation to Bordalás's system wasn't as smooth as hoped, explaining his limited involvement. He now gets the chance to redeem himself in a league with different characteristics.
How does this affect Getafe's squad?
With Neyou's exit, Getafe concludes its outgoings following the market's closure. The club has operated with the goal of adjusting a squad that nears thirty players. The Cameroonian midfielder was one of the players with the fewest minutes so far this season.
The team now faces a key run of fixtures in October, including visits to difficult grounds. Fans can follow the full schedule on our fixtures page. Getafe's next match is a trip to San Mamés to face Athletic Club on Saturday, October 10th.
The Getafe board considers the operation beneficial for all parties. The player gets the continuity he needs, Volos strengthens, and Getafe lightens its wage bill while retaining the player's rights. Neyou must prove in Greece that he can be an option for the coliseum club in the future.
