Getafe CF has secured the renaming of Los Espartales Metro station to Los Espartales‑Coliseum, a move that will take effect with the start of the new LaLiga season. The decision, announced by the Community of Madrid, aims to help supporters quickly identify the access point to the club's stadium. League standing (final 2025 table -- new season not yet under way): 8th in La Liga, 41 pts, 12W-5D-14L from 31 games, recent form LWWLW.
What does the name change entail?
The new name will replace signage, station announcements and suburban maps. In addition, the station will receive a special décor designed by Getafe CF in collaboration with the club's Fan Federation, featuring the anthem lyrics and visual references to the supporters. The goal is for the stop to be recognized as the official gateway to the Coliseum, easing fan arrival on match days.
Why is the Coliseum more than a stadium?
Jorge Rodrigo, the Community of Madrid's councilor, explained that the Coliseum is "much more than a stadium" for Getafe followers, describing it as their home and an essential part of the city's identity. Adding the name to the metro strengthens that bond and answers a long‑standing request from the Fan Federation and Getafe City Council, who sought greater visibility for the venue.
How will this affect fans and the club?
Changes will be implemented the night before the season opener, ensuring signage is ready for the first home match. The special décor will give supporters a unique experience when entering and exiting the station, with club colours and symbols that reinforce a sense of belonging. Goals this season: 27 scored, 32 conceded (-5 goal difference).
What’s next for the Metro network?
Besides Los Espartales‑Coliseum, the Community of Madrid announced that Sierra de Guadalupe station will be renamed Sierra de Guadalupe‑Universidad, highlighting its proximity to the Southern Campus of the Technical University of Madrid. These modifications are part of a broader policy to rename stations for better identification of key locations, such as the transformation of Metropolitano into Vicente Aleixandre and Atocha into Station of Art.
With the new signage, Getafe CF hopes fan flow to the Coliseum will be smoother, potentially creating a more vibrant atmosphere at matches and giving the team an extra boost in the upcoming campaign.
