Getafe Club de Fútbol have made free-agent winger Jadon Sancho their top target for the winter transfer window. Manager José Bordalás is personally leading the operation, holding frequent talks with the 26-year-old in an attempt to persuade him to join the Azulones' project.
"Bordalás is calling him, not every day, but almost...", explained journalist Matteo Moretto, who confirmed the club's interest. Sancho, who became a free agent after his contract with Manchester United expired, is gathering information about LaLiga and life in Madrid through England national team mates and other contacts. Moretto added: "There is a real possibility, I won't say very high because things remain, things need to be fitted in, we're waiting for the guy's OK on the salary level".
The main obstacle is financial. Sancho's salary demands are reported to be around four million euros per year, a figure Getafe must fit within LaLiga's financial regulations. The club is exploring ways to free up salary space, including the potential long-term medical discharge of Juanmi. This push follows the recent free-agent signing of 34-year-old full-back Dani Carvajal, who put pen to paper on a deal until 2027 on October 13th.
The need for attacking reinforcement is clear. Getafe sit 14th in LaLiga with 8 points, having won just once in their last five matches (DLWLD). The team has scored only 4 goals in 8 matchdays, the joint-worst offensive record in the division alongside the bottom side. Last Sunday they drew 1-1 in Romania against Universitatea Craiova, with a goal from Nemanja Gudelj, in a friendly during the international break.
The next fixture is a key one: a Madrid derby against Rayo Vallecano this Saturday at the Coliseum Alfonso Pérez. The visitors, who are 13th with one more point, will face a stadium hoping for a definitive spark in attack. The squad, who can check the full schedule on our fixtures page, are looking to turn around a season that sees them 16 points behind leaders Barcelona.
Beyond Sancho, the club is monitoring other fronts. They are keeping tabs on Villarreal midfielder Iván Martín, though a move appears more likely next summer. As for Julián Álvarez, the striker has not yet decided on a new representative after parting ways with Fernando Hidalgo, weighing several options. The immediate priority, however, is clear: Bordalás and the board will work until the last minute to try and make the dream of seeing Jadon Sancho in the blue shirt a reality.
