Getafe aim to get back on track in La Liga this Monday when they host Rayo Vallecano at the Coliseum Alfonso Pérez. The match, corresponding to the ninth matchday, comes after a domestic break in which the Azulones drew in the UEFA Europa Conference League. The Madrid side sits 14th in the standings with 8 points from two wins, two draws, and four defeats, and trails league leaders Barcelona by 19 points.
Following the 3-0 loss to Barcelona and the 1-1 draw in Romania against Universitatea Craiova, José Bordalás's team has managed just one win in their last five league outings. Their recent form in the competition reads one win, two draws, and two losses. This inconsistent form leaves them 14th in the standings, with 8 points from two wins, two draws, and four defeats. Their goal difference of minus six, having scored four and conceded ten, highlights a need for more cutting edge.
Preview of the Madrid derby
The clash with Rayo represents a southern Madrid derby and a chance to climb the table, with their rivals sitting in 13th place. The last meeting, on January 2nd, ended 1-1 in Vallecas. For this fixture, Bordalás could make adjustments after the European exertions. In their last match against Craiova, he fielded David Soria in goal behind a back four of Andrés García, Djené, Jean Ives Valou, and Davinchi. The midfield was anchored by Nemanja Gudelj and Francho Serrano, with Ramón Terrats, Mario Martín, and Martín Satriano supporting striker Borja Mayoral.
The equalizing goal in Europe was scored by Nemanja Gudelj in the 81st minute. Rayo Vallecano, meanwhile, arrive after a 1-1 draw with Osasuna and a win over Espanyol. Their last starting lineup featured E. Audero in goal, a defensive line of A. Rațiu, Mujaid Sadick, F. Lejeune, and Adrià Pedrosa, and a midfield of Unai López, P. Ciss, and Óscar Valentín behind an attacking trio of Jorge de Frutos, Sergio Camello, and Álvaro García.
With the squad nearly at full strength, Getafe face a key week. After this league commitment, the team will resume its Conference League campaign. The match against Rayo Vallecano is scheduled for Monday, October 19th at 21:00 local time at the Coliseum.
